Question 5

When visitors to Vermont (or anyone) ask about the significance of The Battle of Bennington, you can tell them proudly that this battle is still seen today as a turning point in the American Revolution.

The Bennington Battle Monument commemorates this pivotal victory. It seems fitting that this monument is the tallest structure in the entire State of Vermont.

Fought mostly in New York, the goal of this battle was to prevent the British army from reaching a cache of supplies, horses, cattle and other provisions being held at the same place in Bennington where the monument now stands. The British army was not successful and, when the battle was over, the British Army had lost about 200 men. The Continental Army lost 25 and also took 700 prisoners.

The informative video will give you the answer to this question.

What happened to those 700 prisoners?
